Hope you enjoy your visit. I have been in cattle dogs for a very short time, just over five years, and have really been lucky. I have finished five, and own five, so as you can see I have been lucky. I live in East Texas just north of Longview, have a Basset Hound, in addition to the five cattle dogs. But let me tell you about my first ACD and how I became involved with the breed. On one hot July day a stray blue female found her way to my door. I tried gently to 'ask' her to leave, but she had a mind of her own. She had found her a new home. After the second day I fed her and that's all it took, she was here to stay. After a few days I realized she was deaf, but it wasn't hard for her to quickly learn to respond to hand signals. I named her Shady. Needless to say, I fell in love with the breed. I promptly searched for a show puppy. I had shown Collies back in the early 80's, mid 90's, and thought I could do that again, but I was really rusty. It had been a long time since I had been in the ring. After contacting the ACDCA I was referred to Peggy Jennings and she told me about a litter that I may be able to get a puppy out of. Sure enough, I did find that show puppy, " Ginger". You should've seen me the first time I went into the ring with her. I had some really nice cattledog folks to steer me in the right direction tho. Ginger was only 6 months old and went winners bitch. I was excited. I bred Ginger for the first time to Ch. Stockhands Red Beans And Rice. She had four puppies, two males and two females, my first home bred litter. I kept two, a male and a female. Savage and Rain. Rice, the other male, is co-owned with Debbie Holmes. She is doing great things with him. Ridgecrest Indian Up Rice N, "Rice", is a UKC champion, and has points toward his AKC championship. Suzzy, Ridgecrest U Sioux, was shown at six months and went RWB at the Tyler, TX Kennel club dog show in Canton, TX. She is an A, has bilateral hearing, correct scissors bite and full dentition. She is owned by Dwayne and Tonya Bronikowski and learning to herd cattle Health testing is a priority here at Ridgecrest. Hips, Elbows, BAER, CERF, and of course PRA. Puppies are whelped in the house, are loved, socialized, and taken to puppy classes. Breedings are well thought out and will be done only occasionally. |
